And if there is, how do you tell the difference between sleep paralysis and alien abduction? Hi bluegirl Doctors don't know what sleep paralysis is. But early morning abductions or visits from ET fit the description. I'm sure it's only a coincident ;D

Hi Sleeper, The following is a copy and paste from message board one (I am feeling lazy today) About 10 years ago, i was minding my own business, fast asleep in bed when i woke up in the middle of the night. I woke up because it felt like someone was laying on top of me.I was sort of laying half on my side, half on my front. It took me about 3 seconds to remember that i should have been completely alone in my apartment. I had opened my eyes when i first woke up, but quickly shut them again, i did not want to see whatever 'it' was.All this time i never moved a muscle, i didn't want to alert 'it' to the fact that i was awake. I do think that i could have moved if i had wanted to, i was just too scared to.The sensation of a presence in the room was so intense, isn't it strange when we just know someone else is there? The sensation of someone laying on me faded, and so did the sense of a presence, but still i did not move a muscle. I don't know how long i lay there for, it seemed like forever,i have never felt so awake, but eventually i did move, scanned the room, but of course nobody was there. I feel it is important to say that this was a time of stress for me, and i did put it down to that fact, and/or typical sleep paralysis, but there have been far worse times of high stress and nothing like this occurred. These next two events are kind of similar, in that they could be put into the sleep disorder/sleep paralysis box, but i was not stressed out at these times. About 2 years ago, again fast asleep in bed one minute, the next minute i wake up because my face and whole body is pressing against something, i have the sensation of being elevated! Oh crap! I've floated up to the ceiling! How did i get here? and more importantly how do i get down? I bravely decided to open my eyes, but saw nothing but a black void, the next thing i remember is my alarm screaming at me to wake up! I was so glad i was back in bed. The same thing happened again about two months later, but this time i woke up facing down, with my back on the ceiling, i did not open my eyes this time.
My questions are; Why during the 'sleep paralysis' episode did they wake me up, it really felt like someone was laying on me? The waking up on the ceiling events, were they abductions, or just my imagination/onset of insanity? ;D Why are some people allowed to remember, and are shown more things than other's? Is a humming/buzzing sensation in the ears/head an indication that an ET is nearby? Did I agree to these abductions before I came down here? I totally understand if you can't/won't answer my questions. Thanks.

Hi Sleeper, My questions are; Why during the 'sleep paralysis' episode did they wake me up, it really felt like someone was laying on me? Hi E Sometimes they do restrain those they visit for reasons they block out. All of the above lol, especially if that got out to people who are fast asleep ;D Have your ever left an apple on the teacher's desk as a bribe? Well I never have, I was too poor. ;D No rhyme or reason Those are some of the symptoms, but it could mean that your hearing is going south, or other medical maladies. Not necessarily, but you would have known that such things take place

Thank you Sleeper, that's both pretty cool, and freaky!!
I wish they would stop waking me up though, because I worship the God of sleep!! ;D

I have had the same kind of thing happen to me but in a different way.
This only happened once, I went paralyzed and felt as if I'm floating, I could also sense a presence and it was the strangest experience I felt like I was looking around the room and I could see my body below and I was still asleep. I could see little balls of lights floating around the room. The spooky part was when I looked at the alarm clock and saw the time then suddenly woke up and looked at the alarm clock and got the chills because it was exactly the same time. But I felt like I was in this floating state for at least 10mins but the time was the same when I woke up. I was spooked after that happened but if felt pretty cool honestly and I kept trying to do it again but have not yet succeeded it only happened to me one time.

Hello Starman, thanks for sharing your experience too, it does sound pretty cool. I don't remember sensing a presence at all when it felt like I was floating, I don't remember feeling particularly scared either, just confused, but I did feel 100% awake. As soon as I became aware of what was happening though, I must have passed out. When I opened my eyes I saw nothing, just a totally black void. I'm thinking too that maybe what my 3D brain was telling me was happening may not have been what happened at all. I may not have even been in my bedroom at all, who knows? I don't think you can make it happen again, you will need a little ET friend to help you.

So manny questions,I am very confused trying to connect the dots.A part of me would rather put my head in the sand! I feel I am begining an awakining process,I have been in tune all my life but not fully "awake"I have not been allowed to remember abductions but contact has begun and they want me to know.I need a road map and I have stopped here for directions.Last night I recieved conformation and communication of sorts for sure.I have no reason for self doubt any longer,it is happening and I am honestly scared but have to be armed w/knowlege to deal with all of this.

Hello Journey, welcome to the forum, since you have so many questions, I believe that you are indeed in the right place at the right time!
Are you able to elaborate a little on the communication that you received please?

I don't want to sound like too much of a septic, but there are medical reasons for sleep paralysis. What you experience as sleep paralysis actually happens anytime you are in REM sleep. This is referred to as REM-atonia. There is essentially a group of brain cells located next to the spinal cord in the Locus Coreolus that are turned on during REM sleep. They inhibit muscle activation so you don't act out your dreams. I'm not saying that you couldn't be experiencing an abduction. I'm sure aliens are well aware of human physiology and could easily active these same cells causing paralysis.
It should also be noted that during REM sleep your amygdala is very hyperactive. The amygdala is the emotional center of the brain (REM sleep has a lot to do with emotional processing). It is quite easy to become VERY frightened VERY quickly. Your also still technically in REM sleep and can experience dreams (hallucinations) while in the semi-conscious state. Again, I'm not saying that it IS hallucinations, but that the possibility does exist.
How do I know all this? I have very severe Narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is caused by brain cell death of certain cells in the lateral hypothalamus that inhibit sleep (orexin/hypocretin cells). Normally, they have 3 states. They are excititory. When fully activated you are awake. When partially deactivated you are in non-REM (deep) sleep. When fully deactivated you are in REM sleep.
Without these cells, when I go to sleep almost all that I experience is REM sleep. I don't get any non-REM slow wave sleep (deep sleep) and this leaves me severally sleep deprived and thus tired during the day. When awake the lack of these cells causes me to to not be properly awake. This can also cause me to have mild hallucinations (dreams) during the day. These cells also directly inhibit REM-atonia. Without these cells, anytime I experience emotion I experience REM-atonia. This is referred to as Cataplexy. Most of the time from sleep onset, it takes people around 45-90 minutes to enter into their 1st REM sleep cycled. I can enter REM sleep almost immediately after sleep onset and thus regularly experience Sleep Paralysis.
Regular Sleep Paralysis attacks is actually a symptom of Narcolepsy. Even if you don't experience other symptoms, it can be an early symptom of the increased REM sleep in Narcolepsy. I didn't even think realize I had sleep problems until about last year. Thats when my Narcolepsy deteriorated to the point that I knew something might be wrong. I started having sleep paralysis almost 6 years ago.
It's also worth noting that that there are 5 stages of sleep. The 1st 4 are non-REM sleep with each stage becoming progressively deeper. After stage 4 you go back quickly through the stages until stage 1 (almost waking up, but not quite) and then enter stage 5 (REM sleep). After stage 5, the process repeats it self, usually around 3 times a night. The 1st cycle is more deep sleep. As you through the night, the amount of deep sleep decreases and REM sleep increases. During the last cycle you see the most REM sleep and are thus more prone to sleep paralysis in the morning (especially if you sleep in).
Depressive type states (depression, stress, ect) can also increase REM sleep (by decreasing serotonin levels), leading to an increased chance of sleep paralysis.
Now I have experienced Sleep Paralysis so often (at it's peak nearly 20 times per week) over the past 6 years that I no longer have any fear of an episode. I have actually been able to consciously induce an episode during the early morning once. I could feel the precise moment when my muscles turned off. At that point I opened my eyes and "played" with the sleep paralysis. The 1st thing I noticed was a super heightened emotional state. Despite years of enduring sleep paralysis, I have never been quite this conscious to notice just how heightened emotions are. I quickly became VERY frightened. I could feel adrenaline release and coarse through my body like you can't even imagine. The more frightened I became, the stronger the sense of paralysis became. It's a strange sensation that I can be felt in the spine (and full REM-atonia is much stronger and quicker acting than my cataplexy attacks) It didn't take me long to become convinced that something was going to "get me". I was convinced that something was about to attack me. I have found the best way to stop a sleep paralysis attack is to just close your eyes and do your best to calm down while trying to remain conscious (assuming your conscious enough in the 1st place to remember to do this).
Now I can still remember my 1st sleep paralysis attack (6 years ago) and it was unlike any other attack I have had since. The thought of it still frightens me, and even given all I know I'm still not convinced it was purely sleep paralysis.
It was the middle of the night and from what I can remember I was having trouble falling back asleep. I remember feeling a pressure at my feet. I thought it was maybe just in my mind. The pressure stopped and my feet and legs became VERY warm. I was kind of afraid, but I just sat in my bed and tried to calm myself down. I then had the strong sense of something right next to my bed. At the time I really believed I was awake. The sense was so strong I remember lifting my head out and was about to turn around and open my eyes. I then had the sensation that something pushed against my chest and pushed me back into bed. I was so scared I didn't dare open my eyes. I remember begging inside my mind for it to stop. After a few seconds it did and my chest became VERY warm.
I have never since had that warm feeling. I could have sworn I wasn't asleep. And I could have sworn I had partially lifted my body out of bed. It really does make me wonder.
It could be possible ghost activity. The only reason I think this is a possibility is my room without any doubt was haunted. That house was actually owned by my grandparents. When living in that house my grandparents slept in that room. Several times they had a sensation of pressure at the feet and of something grabbing their hand. My aunt and uncle also lived their and slept in that room and had similar experiences. My grandmother is now renting the house and the current occupant (who is also sleeping in that room) is also experiencing the same things. I on several occasions felt my hand being grabbed and felt the pressure at my feet every night. The current occupant believes the foot pressure is the ghost of a dog. I always thought it was in my head until my grandmother told me what she, my aunt and uncle, and the current occupant all experienced. I also remember once waking up, getting out of bed, going into the living room and hearing music. I thought it was my mom/dad just watching a TV music channel sleeping on the couch. I swear I could also see light (which I thought was the TV). As soon as I entered the living room the light went away and the music just stopped. It was so strange, and I am not the only person to have heard music like that. During the day I have also heard a voice calling out my name when no one else was around. When I would sleep on the couch (which I did very often) I could always hear strange noises, footsteps, cupboards closing in the kitchen, radio static, ect all in my sleep. I really wonder if any of this might be attributed to possible alien visitation/abduction?
The strange side effect of narcolepsy is how it effects your consciousness. Despite how disabled it has left me, I don't always know if I would give it up and loose this altered consciousness. I have experienced so many strange things! Out of body experiences (especially during sleep paralysis), loss of perception of the boundaries of my body when awake, feeling that I wasn't controlling my body and was just along for the ride, sudden clarity of thought (realizations about the world around me) in which my mind was able to make sense of very complicated things which felt were being channeled to me rather than being a product of my own mind. These things have really challenged my reality of the world and a feeling that my mind is much more "open". I also feel less connected to this world and more connected to something else. It's kind of hard to describe.
During sleep paralysis there have been a few instances where I would close my eyes and start seeing very clear random images that were very different from any dream. I had this sense the entire time that what I was seeing was real. I also have this unexplained memory as a kid. I remember looking at the curtained bedroom window (daytime). A VERY brilliant red light quickly came down out of the sky. I remember thinking at the time how very unusual and fast it was. I'm positive this wasn't a dream. However, I don't remember looking out the window or front door to see what it was. In fact I don't remember anything surrounding this memory. I always thought it was pretty strange and have never been able to explain it.

Hello Cojoda,
Hey thanks for the sleep info and for sharing your experience with narcolepsy.
Do you dream at all?
I wonder what the hell is wrong with me, my body keeps trying to sleep one hr. later every day and a good nights rest for me is like 13 hrs.

Actually, all I do is dream. It seems like I dream from the moment I shut my eyes to the moment I wake up. I don't even have to be technically asleep to start dreaming. If I close my eyes I start seeing dream like scenes and images almost immediately. If you really are sleeping that much, don't kid yourself, there is something wrong. My advice would be to go see a sleep specialist rather than a GP, because they are actually trained to recognize sleeping disorders. I would also recommend the following sleep disorder website as they have a very active and helpful community: www.talkaboutsleep.com/message-boards/index.php?sid=467207f93132c95ae77c642a50de0c0c

Very interesting cojoda and welcome from another "newbie". I have only had one exp.and frankly it was enough for me.I had just fallen asleep and was in space, astral flying when out of the blue I had an emediate (sp)? need to return to my body as quickly as possible! It was also the first time I have ever seen my silver cord and knew that I was out of body.I remembered I was instantly jolted back into my body and filled with an intense fear I have never known. It was at this moement that I tried to wake my husband and was unable to move, I then saw in a corner of the room the face of pure evil! I tried to speak my husbands name and was unable to do anything but a gutteral grunts of sorts. They were primal but w/out enough volume to arrouse my husband from sleep.I have never felt so vulnerable in my life! I was awake and this lasted for maybe two minutes at the most although it seemed to last much longer. The evil face was not there long at all but long enough for me to know everything it was and was not and it was very angry with me.It did not speak to me in words, it resonated.I just knew, felt it with a deep knowing.I feel my body sent my astral body a message for sure and I am thankful that the call came through! I do not want to think of what might have happened if I had not returned when I did.
