I've thought about it for a few years and never thought I'd do it. I cancelled my subscription and unplugged the ariels, cancelled the TV licence etc.
It is peaceful now. I get more done. I have more time. I wish I'd done it before. It is cleansing. It is helping my experience on Earth.
I already thought I was on a good path and it has visibly and significantly improved since TV is no longer a part of daily life.
I like it.
I recommend it.

Hey Bear,
Turned mine off two years ago. One of the best things I've ever done.
I thought I might be out of the loop in the social world--Nope!

Hi Bearman I couldn't agree more with that statement. I turned mine off/stopped watching permanently back in 2003 when INTERNET connections got better. I now have a den in my house where I sit most days for about 16-18 hours depending on our pishy Irish climate I'm subjected to. (to wet or cold to go out) lol I do still have the satellite/sky which runs me about £50 a month but its for my kid and wife, their lifes would be empty without their daily dose of soap/shite, I'm sure you know what woman are like. I lost interest in TV after the 32nd re-run of Star Trek TNG. TV sucks, always did, well since I was a Kid and I'm kicking 40 Like messenger pigeons its lost its usefulness to superior technology. TV is for the sleeping masses, mind numbingly boring drivel for those that perceive it as "entertainment" Just my 2 cents. My time is better spent learning and absorbing info that only the Internet /books can offer. Peace Bro Kirky PS.. RANT = another thing I thought I'd mention is that I live in N Ireland where we have to pay for a TV License (Yes you heard that correctly a licence to watch %&*@ing TV) cost about £130 a year GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. ...and I swear I never watch it but you got have it to have that fecking goggle box in the house ...thank yo BBC thank you..for nothing but crap on TV

So it seems that this board is full of people with no tv. Except Kirky who just pretends he doesn't have one (j/k) I should have done a poll. I must admit, TV is available on the web and dvd's etc are still watchable so I may be cheating somewhat. Does YouTube count as TV? And I do listen to a lot of radio, is that cheating too? People in the "real world" react strangely and with disbelief when I tell them I had no TV. I was going to say that I'm glad I'm not weird as many of you dont; watch tv either. but then, we are all on this board

Each month I dutifully pay my TV license (grrrr...I don't agree with paying it ), and my subscription to Sky, just so I can have access to hundreds of channels of complete crap. So who is the crazy one? I need a TV though, so I can play Lego Indianna Jones with my Son. ;D

People in the "real world" react strangely and with disbelief when I tell them I had no TV. I was going to say that I'm glad I'm not weird as many of you dont; watch tv either. but then, we are all on this board Hi Bear You are right in a way of course and you are funny, Youtube & radio is fine becuase YOU choose what you will listen to/watch. But you hit on something quite important to me. Personally I would donate every TV I have in my house to charity (wife would never sanction it of course) but I would worry that I would be aiding poisoning someone else's mind who got the TV's and I couldn't live with that thought. I need the TV's in the house for my own sanity, as my disabled daughter and wife are hooked on their daily dose of soap and crap, and I would be tortured by them everyday if they never got thier fix bless em. But I will state for the record that I DO NOT watch it full stop, NO BULL*****. There are many reasons for why. But he main one is that I recognize it for what it is at its heart. Mainly that its a form of brainwashing for the masses. Used as a propaganda tool for those that would control our thoughts and actions. I consider the INTERNET, google video, youtube etc as my source and reference for information that "I" need, to find the REAL truth. Alternative radio sources such as coast to coast, rense etc the same as... I use the INTERNET to buy/download books such as amazon, Barnes&noble, lulu to confirm and dig deeper to what I deem as TRUTH....funny that you know... in one way or another its led me like YOU and all here to Lou/sleeper & John Lear. I believe the information they offer is priceless. This information "I" have absorbed is not taught via main stream/brainwashing media outlets/sources. In all my near 40 years on this rock, most of which were spent in the dark depths of hate, envy and all the rest of the negative emotions as a soldier and fire fighter... the last 7 represents the most cherished and most appreciated time of learning, mind expansion and enlightenment, and it seems to be culminating right HERE. If there wasn't so much brainwashing going on with the TV/Goggle Box it would be hilarious and a joke due to the 500 channels of pure crap. But unfortunately I see it as poison. Poison for the sheeple. When will the masses ever wake up. I don't know...I wish they would hurry up, but unfortunately the TV does not help. Now thats not particularly funny is it... in fact its terribly sad. But I do see light at the end of the tunnel, more and more people are turning off and tunning in to whats really REAL. More people, across the rock are connecting, the truth is there for more people to see and witness than was ever possible and at any past time. Its still a small number considering the masses of brain dead people out there clinging to their "entertainment" and fake reality, but its a start, small acorns anyone.. But one day far off probably the TV will be as outdated as Indian smoke signals, and hopefully the masses will become enlightened, let go of their silly religious dogma and become a spiritual space exploring understanding human race. Anyways, from what we know now lots of us will maybe get to participate in that wondrous futuristic time on another life mission ;D Just my long winded 2 cents on why I deplore the TV (notice the way I said deplore instead of hate.) Peace people Kirky (Now go and turn off that friggen hypno box you call TV and go do something less boring instead, like smashing it up with what we used to call in the fire service a "10 pound adjusting tool" aka sledgehammer..ooooooooooooooo that would be fun ;D ;D) Update as of Sunday 7th 16.50 Irish time. We have a show over here called X factor where wannabe pop stars become recognized wannabes. From my perspective the show sucks dead dogs Dick from every personal perspective, its top No1 on my "recycle" (h8TV) list. My wife and kid are more concerned at the minute with the results/potential winner, this is priority TV today for them... but it hurts my eyes and most of all ears, this is why I have my den to cocoon myself away from the "NOISE"...figures...say no more about "tv Entertainment" HELP ;D

So who is the crazy one? That would be you. Actually, that's what I figured. I am paying all this money for complete crap. I want to work, read, meditate and loads of things I want to do, I was wasting my money... and my time. I need a TV though, so I can play Lego Indianna Jones with my Son. ;D I have ps2, radio, utube, dvd player, downloads. But it's baby steps, right?

Why don't you? Why don't you? Just switch of the tv set and go out and do something less boring instead oh man, 80's budget tv. It is good advice though.
