Each month I dutifully pay my TV license (grrrr...I don't agree with paying it ), and my subscription to Sky, just so I can have access to hundreds of channels of complete crap. So who is the crazy one? That would be you. Actually, that's what I figured. I am paying all this money for complete crap. I want to work, read, meditate and loads of things I want to do, I was wasting my money... and my time. I need a TV though, so I can play Lego Indianna Jones with my Son. ;D I have ps2, radio, utube, dvd player, downloads. But it's baby steps, right? Agreed 110% EEvee Hello, and merry everything BTW ;D I also like to do a lot in my house which that friggen "HYPNO BOX" seriously interferes with. I have a wee handicapped girl. She's not too good with gadgets but is learning thankfully. But she still has problems with getting the numbers right on the remote for the channels she watches. Now... like her mother (Marie, she actually calls her Marie..me DAD she loves soap, drama, (any drama ) cooking, girly cartoons, girly health/beauty programs, girly fashion shows, girly ANYTHING x factor, casualty, Holby City, Portland Babies, Yorkhill, etc etc ETCETRAAA ) Well...... ::)To keep the peace (and my sanity) I have to record this crap for THEM...so my babe/wify can watch her CRAP when Kid is in bed. Same applicable vice versa ) AND... of course I'm the only "feck" in the house that can operate/setup the thing/their crap. The AMOUNT of time I LOSE sorting all this CRAP out is phenomenal. I swear somedays I have have timed it. Especially when their both OFF (school/work)... The maximum time I actually sat at complete peace without a break is 20mins, NOT JOKING. On average 5 to 10mins. Bedtime cant come early enough for me sometimes. you dig. (the things you do for love) I would also LORRRVVE to spend more time at the PC watching YOUTUBE or listing to latest C2C or... blasting my bother in law with a head shot on Counter Strike. Or simple just curling up with a really good book..like one I read not so long ago....emmmmm what was it called , o... yea.. A Day with.... LOL,,, well I have to, for my sanity's sake. TV is for those that need their fake reality and blinkers attached. But wada they know, wadaya gonna do. Well. Theres so many many MANY better things that be done other than watching that pish. Turn it off/sell it to charity, do the logical thing...lol ;D Peace People Kirky

We don't subscribe to any telly stations here either. We watch DVDs/tapes on our TV once in a while. A great many in our collection are educational; history, philosophy, or documentaries. When our son was about 5 yo, his favourite show was a 2 hour documentary on The Battle of Guadalcanal. He loved that show! We do have movies (and we rent from Blockbuster now and again), but no cable, satellite, nothing of that sort. Matter of fact, when the States goes completely digital, we don't even have a box nor an upgraded TV to receive signals, we'll still be on analog. The whole family is in agreement on this, me, hubby, 11 yo son and 7.5 yo daughter. Not sure if it's due to, or just a coincidence, but both kids are reading above level, son is musically inclined and a science whiz, daughter writes and illustrates her own stories and poetry. We watch selected stuff on YouTube or other video sites when we wish. We all play games on our PCs, sometimes together (on Puzzle Pirates, or Dungeon Seige). When we visit my parents sometimes I'll catch a news show, and the kids might watch Animal Planet. When I watch "regular" television (like when I babysit) I enjoy shows about UFOs, aliens, ghosts, history, science, archaeology..... Now kirky, you know I luv ya, but you said: "its for my kid and wife, their lifes would be empty without their daily dose of soap/shite, I'm sure you know what woman are like."Last time I checked, I still have a woman's fiddly bits and I don't care for TV at all. The last time I watched a soap, it was when Luke and Laura were first married on General Hospital (and how long ago was that? 20some years?). I find soaps to be useless pieces of drivel, poorly written, over acted, wonderful time-wasters (and you can tell your wife I said so. No, maybe not, you want to keep the peace, right? LOL!). Yeah, most of our friends and our kids' friends think we're odd for not watching the "usual" shows (our daughter does not like Hannah Montana at all!) but what the hey, we'd rather not, we're too busy doing other things, just like most people here ("here" as in on this message board that is)!

Hi ankhesenamen I hear you loud and clear darlin and please dont think I was trying to come off as male chauvinistic, I am not rest assured its just a generalization of my lifes observations... problem is I have lots of woman in my life. My mothers side I have 8 aunts and about 10 million cousins, which mostly are girls/women. On my wifes side she is one of SEVEN sisters, seems there are few men and mostly all women, her youngest sister (32) has just popped out number 4 all girls (jezzzz I feel sorry for their Da, he better start saving now for wedding bells LMAO)), ... believe me or not I stick to my above generalization becuase alas its true, they are all A TYPICAL... smokers, chin wagers/gossipers, phonebone queens, anything drama lovers,,,you get the idea, so please forgive me but please do understand my frustrations, I'm sure you can understand. I am ever so pleased to hear that you and your family are not the norm, when you said other people find it odd that you dont watch TV cause I get the same attitude, its like I'm lying or something, they just dont understand. I do believe that the populace has been brainwashed, and I am always amazed and the level of stupidity and dumbed down materialistic attitudes of common folk these days. But enough rambling. I love ya already, glad to hear your kids are smart too, makes sense, they dont watch the HYPNO bix like most do these days. Keep them learning, AND KEEP THEM AWAY FROM TV The tide is turning darling, slowly but surely keep up the good work Peace babes (and heres to your woman hood/fiddley bits ;D) This beer's to you and your health, Slainte Kirky

Hello all, I watch tv to get documentaries, my favorites spooky shows and to watch movies/dvd. Balance is the Key here I think. My mother always said everything in moderation and she is so right... I live on a boat so sometimes I like a little entertainmment out here!
