So, let's start with the basics. I doubt most people on this site have trouble with this part of it but I know lots have trouble grasping why time is an illusion.
The basic parts of this are simple: You have a planet, time is only relevant to it's spin and its relationship to the sun/moon. Time is how beings measure the break up of their day. Our human concept of time is simply how our planet relates to other celestial objects and depending on this concept from planet to planet...time is will break up and measure accordingly.
In space there is no need for time, and there is no need to hold a standard because there is no one universal break up or measurement since other planets can obviously vary greatly. Space doesn't spin on its axis, space does not obey what the sun and moon dictates to it through movement. Space simply is the warehouse to all of those things. Time is subjective, planet to planet.
The harder concepts, why short moments of "Earth time" feel longer in space: Since it is commonly known that anybody who comes in contact with other entities usually report very fast moving beings. The speed with which they operate, effect the witness's concept of time through this experience.
If for example, you witness an entity that just did a day's worth of work right in front of you, in actual "earth time" it might have been accomplished in only 20 minutes.
This means that witnessing a large load of activity or information in such a short amount of time, makes the human brain feel like it just absorbed information that is proportionate to that which it is used to, expects and is only capable of processing. This could include being whisked all over the place to simply sitting back and watching something take place.
This is why vacations feel short, and work weeks can feel long. Regardless of the enjoyment level..if you're tasked with having to be "alive" with attention being payed to..and aware of every single tedious or detailed thing take place every single second and minute of that specific time frame...you simply feel the weight of it.
If we think of it this way...maybe even trying to wrap a human mind around such concepts...is not actually all that elusive.
